"Fairies’ Honey," is from Maria Lai’s series of ‘sewn books’ for which Lai delicately bound together pages of fabric and cloth. Detailed into lyrical lines, the threadwork mimics text but ultimately remains indecipherable to its reader and offers multiple interpretations. Lai’s practice at large incorporated story-telling traditions and other customs of her native Sardinia, and she saw her art as a social catalyst for education in her community. Spending time in Venice and Rome for much of her career, she would return full time to Sardinia in 1993 to devote her artist endeavors there. "Fairies’ Honey" alludes to myth and fairy tale, and is among the most colorful within the ‘sewn books’ series.
