This piece is from Bartlett’s ambitious series "Air: 24 Hours" in which the artist documented the passage of time through moments captured within her home and studio in Manhattan. Bartlett completed 24 large-scale paintings for the series corresponding to each hour of the day, and for each canvas painted she also completed a smaller pastel variant on the scene. All the works in this series share a gridded structure underpinning the composition, the elements of which always add up to sixty, to present the passing of time in each hour.
