This year, Design Miami is host to three major works of public art that collectively offer a welcome to our visitors. They are the creations of Nicole Nomsa Moyo, whose monumental installation Pearl Jam elevates both the fair and the Miami Design District this year; artists Simon and Nikolai Haas, who have brought their sensational work, The Strawberry Tree to Miami from the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas; and Mathieu Lehanneur, who lit up Paris with his iconic designs for this summer’s Olympic Games, and has created an immersive space for the fair, setting the tone for this year’s theme, Blue Sky. In this conversation, we’ll hear the thinking behind all these projects, and discuss the tough challenges and deep satisfactions of designing in public.
