Frank Stella’s recent sculptural works capture the artist’s ongoing exploration of the spatial relationships between abstract and geometric forms and the ways in which they engage with physical space. Here, Stella combines a latticed framework with more fluid lines, creating a dynamic interplay between minimalist and gestural visual vocabularies. Stella’s brightly painted, dynamic forms shift dramatically when viewed from different sides. As one of the first artists to make use of computer-aided design programs in the 1990s, Stella continues utilizing them to digitally render objects and develop the forms of his sculpture and reliefs to this day.
