Marianne Boesky Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Yoshitomo Nara. This will be the artist's third solo show in New York.
For this exhibition, Nara will create a large site-specific installation. Working with the young design team Graf, from Osaka Japan, the artist will erect a house in the main gallery space, resembling a tree house and made from salvaged wood from the New York area. Nara has made six of these structures over the last few years for exhibitions in Asia. This will be the first work of this type to be exhibited in the US. The house serves as a sort of movable studio space, but smaller in scale, almost childlike. The structure creates an artist's studio, or hideout within the gallery. The house will contain Nara's sculptures and dozens of drawings, as well as his personal effects such as photographs, toys, CD's, a boom box, beer cans, etc. Much like a large-scale diorama, viewers will be able to walk around and peer into the tree house at many points.
