The Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana commissioned "Love Grave" in 2003. It was created by digging the letters of the word “LOVE” in capital letters six feet into the ground and by leaving mounds of dug-up earth around the letters. The dichotomy inherent in spelling the word “love” by means of a symbol of death calls attention to the connections between Eros and Thanatos, between plenitude and emptiness. It also alludes to the inevitable ending of love stories. Love Grave, 2003/2020 can be acquired with an artist fee of $150,000. Fabrication & installation costs are separate and can be quoted upon request. Standard size is 1 meter length by 5 meter width by 6 feet depth dug into the ground, though is modifiable in consultation with the artist. The walls of the letters are held by welded net steel and sod, and are fabricated in consultation with the artist. The artist advises involving a landscaper or someone familiar with the soil composition and site-specific environment.
